Bardotka on the Vlárská dráha
Classic infrastructure in southeastern Czechia
Sunday, 27.04.2025
Much of the classic railway infrastructure remains intact along the main line between Brno and Veselí nad Moravou. In towns such as Slavkov u Brna, Nemotice, and Kyjov, one still encounters old semaphore signals, traditional crossing gates, and numerous kilometer markers - a true paradise for railway enthusiasts. The line’s charm invites visitors to linger. Yet time marches on: a comprehensive modernization project, including electrification, is scheduled to begin as early as 2026. This presented a perfect opportunity to capture the atmosphere of this bygone railway era one last time with a special photo train - hauled by a locomotive and featuring tank cars. The event took place on April 27, 2025; bathed in brilliant sunshine, the "Pyjama Bardotka" (locomotive 751 207-2) spent the entire day in operation, with the photography focused primarily on the section between Nesovice and Kyjov. By evening, the return journey could be made with a sense of satisfaction.
