Local freight train on the Ziegenbahn

With Two Transistors in the Ore Mountain Foothills

Friday, 03.10.2025

On October 3, 2025, railway enthusiasts were treated to a rare highlight on the historic "Ziegenbahn" (Goat Railway) in the Czech Republic. A photo freight train rolled through the picturesque landscape of the Ore Mountains foothills along a revived section of the old Děčín–Chomutov line—hauled by the two distinctive "Transistor" locomotives, 742 370-0 and 742 107-6.

The line, once a vital link in the Czech rail network, lost its passenger service in 2007, after which it quickly fell into disrepair. However, the Děčín–Krupka město section has been operational again since 2024—an opportunity railway photographers were eager to seize.

Furthermore, locomotive 742 107-6 is apparently nearing the end of its service life. It was truly the last possible moment to give this locomotive a fitting stage—paired photogenically with its powerful sister engine, 742 370-0. It was a day filled with the sound of diesel engines, autumn light, and railway nostalgia!
