Mikado between the Börde and the Altmark

Three days of Reichsbahn atmosphere with 41 1144-9

The Class 41 "Mikado" locomotives were once a familiar sight in the Börde and Altmark regions. Whether hauling heavy freight or operating regional commuter and express services, they were considered true "workhorses" and frequently ran between Magdeburg and Oebisfelde, their distinctive exhaust beats echoing far and wide along the Mittelland Canal. Locomotive 41 1144-9 - based in Eisenach - also once called this route home, making it the star of a special excursion.

Since the Magdeburg–Haldensleben–Oebisfelde line still offers numerous photo opportunities capturing the historic atmosphere of a bygone railway era - and was also one of the last areas where the Class 41 operated - the decision was made to bring the Eisenach-based 41 1144-9 back to life on its old home turf.

On the weekend of October 8–9, 2022, the locomotive - bearing authentic Era IV markings - was showcased hauling a Lowa E5 carriage, five Bghw carriages, and two Gbs freight wagons.
