Return of the G12 to the Ore Mountains
58 1111-2 in its old home territory
Friday, 17.04.2026
It took many decades for a G12 locomotive to steam through the Ore Mountains under its own power once again. Thanks to the efforts of the Ulm Railway Enthusiasts (Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde) and the special train operator Gleisglück—along with many other helpers and supporters—it was possible to bring the 58 1111-2 to the Ore Mountains for a weekend. A photography event was organized at the Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf locomotive depot on the eve of the main event.

At this day locomotive 58 1111-2 was scheduled to make its round trip. It ran twice from Chemnitz via Aue, Schwarzenberg, Markersbach, Schlettau, and Annaberg, returning to Chemnitz. A large number of photographers and passengers, combined with the fine weather, made this Saturday a resounding success!
