Winter steam at the Öchsle
Photo train in the Swabian winter
Sunday, 14.01.2024
On Sunday, January 14, 2024, a special winter steam photography excursion took place on the line between Warthausen and Ochsenhausen under the motto "Opportunity Creates Photo Trains." The train was hauled by narrow-gauge steam locomotive 99 633 - bearing DB livery and markings - and featured period-authentic Württemberg-style carriages. The consist included baggage car Stg 0144 (type KPwPosti), passenger cars Stg 0166 and Stg 0021, and buffer car Stg 481.
The journey began in Warthausen around 8:00 a.m. and proceeded to Ochsenhausen, with several stops made along the way for photography. At Ochsenhausen, the locomotive was repositioned and took on water before the return trip to Warthausen, which featured numerous photo stops and staged run-pasts. A planned highlight of the return journey was capturing the sunset on the embankment near Sulmingen—a shot that was executed beautifully.
The event offered a unique experience filled with historic charm and atmospheric winter scenery—a successful day for all involved, made even better by perfect weather conditions. Special thanks go to the organizer and the Öchsle Museum Railway for the first-rate execution of the event.
